WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SAVED YOUR SEED PHRASE BEFORE RESETTING YOUR DESKTOP WALLET YOU WILL LOSE ALL FUNDS IN THE WALLET.
If you have previously installed the Radix Desktop Wallet, whenever you open the wallet it will try to load your saved wallet “keystore” that was created when you first created your wallet. The keystore is a file saved on your computer that personalizes the Desktop Wallet to you. If you modify or delete the keystore, you will lose access to your funds. Only do this if you are certain you have a working seed phrase.
To reset your Desktop Wallet, you must first load the Desktop Wallet application. If you’re already in the Desktop Wallet application, quit, and reload it.
Once loaded, the Desktop Wallet will prompt you to enter your password. To reset your Desktop Wallet, click “I forgot my password”.
You will then be presented with this screen, where you will have two options:
- Delete and restore from seed phrase - use this if you know the seed phrase you want to use to restore a previous wallet. Proceed to step 3a below if you wish to do this.
- Delete and create a new wallet - use this if you want to create a brand new wallet from scratch. Proceed to step 3b below if you wish to do this.
If you click “Delete and restore from seed phrase”, you will be required to type “DELETE AND RESTORE” into the Desktop Wallet to continue. This is to ensure that the keystore is not deleted by accident.
After confirming “Yes, I’m sure I want to delete my wallet”, you will then be presented with a screen to enter your seed phrase. Doing this will restore your old wallet and you will have successfully reset your Desktop Wallet by deleting the keystore.
If you click “Delete and create a new wallet”, you will be required to type “DELETE WALLET” into the Desktop Wallet to continue. This is to ensure that the keystore is not deleted by accident.
After confirming “Yes, I’m sure I want to delete my wallet”, you will have successfully reset your Desktop Wallet by deleting the keystore.
You will then be presented with the seed phrase for your brand new wallet. Make sure you keep a permanent record of your seed phrase and store it securely, otherwise you may lose your funds. Further guidance on how to do this can be found here:
For reference, the keystore is stored in a file named “wallet.json” in the following file locations. We do not recommend modifying or deleting the keystore as you may lose access to your funds.
